Multiple Top 10 Marks Set for Women's Track & Field in Season Opener
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team opened their season at the Youngstown State Icebreaker on Friday, facing off against competition from all three NCAA divisions.
Senior Valerie Boards had FSU's top finish on the day, placing sixth overall in the 200m at 25.23. Junior Bella Mastria also impressed in the sprints, putting forth a pair of personal bests and top-5 program marks in the 60m hurdles (9.14) and the 60m (7.79).
In the 800m, freshman Leah Magda (2:24.69) and sophomore Kenlee Hayes (2:26.15) both had top-10 finishes in the event as well as in the program's all-time list at ninth and tenth, respectively. Continuing into the distance events, junior Emily Wishart took eighth overall in the mile at 5:24.35, while classmate Clare Woodring set a personal record in the 5K at 21:56.64.
In the throws, sophomore Sydney Johnson had a career day, setting new highs in both the weight throw (13.82m) and the shot put (10.41), putting herself fourth all-time in the former event.
The Bobcats closed out the meet with the team of Boards, Mastria, Hayes, and junior Lucy Crowe placing seventh overall in the 4x400m relay (4:01.62).
Frostburg will now have a long layoff until returning to Youngstown on Friday, January 16 at the YSU Invitational. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
