FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team defeated No. 7 Millersville at home by a score of 4-0 to pick up their first conference win of the year on Saturday afternoon.
 
FSU began the game on the front foot, earning an early corner but not generating a shot out of it. At the other end of the field, the Marauders would have their first look at goal go wide. After four minutes without a shot, senior goalkeeper Zoe Barnes would hold off MU three times within a two-minute span to keep things scoreless. The Bobcat defense then fended off a penalty corner without Millersville getting a chance at an effort, ending the period at 0-0. 
 
The second quarter would see the Bobcats start to play more confidently, as sophomore Rachel Young drew a save from keeper Sarah Crysler before her next shot went just over the cross bar. Barnes would come up with two saves in the middle of the frame to keep things tied, as each team found attacking chances hard to come by. Frostburg would have another chance late on, but Young fired wide and sophomore Sydney Spivey was denied by Crysler to send the game to half still at 0-0.
 
FSU came out flying to begin the third, as junior Emma Price would break the tie with a goal in the first minute of play. Three minutes later, Barnes was called into action again to preserve the advantage. Off a penalty corner midway through the corner, Frostburg would add to the lead with a goal from senior Paige Leitzel, going up 2-0. With four to go in the frame, Barnes wiped away any chance of an MU goal from their own corner with yet another save, holding the two-goal advantage with 15 to play. 
 
Leitzel would strike again early in the fourth, making a solo run and firing to get her second goal of the day. Barnes would continue to keep the Marauder offense at bay with saves six minutes apart, while the Bobcat defense limited Millersville's chances. After a corner from the visitors, FSU would break out and counter, where Leitzel found Price for goal number four on the day. With just 90 seconds remaining, Barnes preserved her shutout with one final save to secure the 4-0 upset. 

MU held an 11-8 advantage in shots, with ten on goal to Frostburg's six, as Barnes made 10 saves in net. 
 
With the win the Bobcats, are now 3-11 on the year, while Millersville moves to 7-7. FSU will travel to Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday, October 22 for a 7 PM game. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com.
