FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team fell 2-1 against Charleston (WV) in the quarterfinal match of the MEC Tournament, marking the end of their 2025 season. 

FSU got off to a quick start as senior Morgan Mrizek managed a shot under 15 seconds in that missed just right. The Bobcats kept the pressure up at the eight-minute mark when sophomore Mollie Rebuck fired her first effort that got blocked by the Golden Eagles' defense. Within the next three minutes, Frostburg managed two chances, one by Mrizek and the other by sophomore Ana Davis, both of which went into the hands of UC's goalkeeper, Ines Degli Esposti. FSU didn't let up, as 12 minutes in, Rebuck fed the ball through to sophomore Cassidey Paige, who shot one that ricocheted off the right side of the post before she came charging back in to tap the ball in for a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats immediately looked to add more as they got a corner kick that led to a shot as Davis knocked the ball right to Esposti. Charleston's first opportunity of the match came not long after that, as it missed out to the left. Their next chance resulted in a goal, with a giveaway at midfield allowing Sydney Crowe to charge at the Frostburg defense before playing in Ava Bourne, who maneuvered her way around sophomore keeper Kayla Doty and shot into the back of the net, tying the game at one. 

Nearing the midway point of the half, Frostburg kept putting pressure on the Golden Eagles' defense as they managed two shots within a minute, as Rebuck fired one high before nearly giving FSU the lead, but Degli Esposti stuck out a leg to stop her open effort from eight yards out. Senior Carly Gillette followed by having her shot blocked. A pair of shots from either team followed, one by Gillette for FSU and one by Ciara Casamento for UC, both missing left of the mark. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, the Bobcats generated two more chances, both by Gillette, as the first was saved and the second missed wide left. 

Charleston came into the second half determined to take the lead, beginning with full momentum, taking a corner kick where the initial effort was saved on the line before Maya Pooler snuck the ball past a wall of Frostburg defenders. Up 2-0, things were quiet for the Golden Eagles over the next 20 minutes as FSU managed just two shots within that same span of time, with Paige shooting wide right and senior Hannah Clagett missing up top. Just over 25 minutes into the half, UC had a golden opportunity as the Bobcats' goal was wide open, but the shot missed left before they had another chance eight minutes later, which Doty had to dive to her right to save. 

Nearing the 80-minute mark, Frostburg had two chances to tie up the game as Gillette and Davis both fired attempts that were saved by Esposti. The last ten minutes were quiet for both teams, with Charleston working to keep FSU's attack at bay. Despite a few last-ditch efforts to maneuver towards the goal for the Bobcats, the clock hit zero, ending the game at 2-1. 

Frostburg held a 16-7 advantage in shots, with eight of them being on target compared to UC's four.

With the loss, FSU ends their season at 10-5-4, while the Golden Eagles improve to 9-7-3 and move on to face West Virginia State in the MEC semifinals.
