Men's Soccer Ends Campaign in MEC Quarterfinal Loss to Senators

FROSTBURG, Md. On a chilly Sunday night, the Frostburg State Men's Soccer team fell 3-1 against Davis & Elkins in the quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament, marking the end of their 2025 season.

Within the first six minutes, both teams took a shot, with Benjamin Luengo for D&E and senior Kevin Garcia-Torres for the Bobcats each lining one to the opposing goalkeeper. It would be the Senators that responded again quickly, as just seven minutes in, an attempted clearance by sophomore keeper Jan Foret was blocked by Abdourhaman Faye, who passed it to Francisco Lopez Kreik, allowing him to sink the ball in the right corner of the net. Down 1-0 early, FSU battled to get two chances within six minutes as Garcia-Torres missed up top and Spencer Davis' shot hit the outside of the left post. It wasn't until nearly 30 minutes after their opening goal that Davis & Elkins had another chance, which went wide right, and then another that missed high, ending the first half.

As they had the beginning of the first, D&E started the second half with an early goal just four minutes in, when Faye shot a curling effort from 20 yards, netting it in the top right corner, giving the Senators an insurance goal at 2-0. After the goal, Davis & Elkins quickly had another attempt that went right to Foret. Nearing the 12-minute mark, freshman Inzaghi Harmon took a shot that a D&E defender blocked. Over the next ten minutes, the Senators had two shots, one that missed to the left and the other that Foret jumped to save. Another two chances came for Davis & Elkins just over the midway point of the half as Chinedu Ikem and Jorge Canga both shot left, with the former missing and the latter having to be saved by Foret. D&E added a third goal when Ikem flicked in a low corner kick that bounced right into the Bobcats' goal. Two minutes after, Ikem tried for another, as he rounded Foret int he box and tried to slot home, however senior Sebestatin Vargas slid to knock it away from the net to back up his keeper.

Some energy arose for FSU when sophomore Andrew Denard drove down the right wing and passed to the edge of the box for classmate Dom Good to cross into the box for freshman Nate Kennedy to head into the net, putting Frostburg on the board with the score now 3-1. With under ten minutes left in the match and some momentum under their belts, the Bobcats generated two quick shots: one by junior Hugo Portillo, which was blocked, and the other by senior Carlos Quintero Rivas, which the Senators' goalkeeper saved. FSU's final attempt came from Portillo, who missed well right of the mark before the clock hit zero, ending the game with Davis & Elkins coming out on top 3-1.

D&E held a 12-8 advantage in shots, with eight of them being on goal compared to Frostburg's three.

With the loss, the Bobcats end their season at 7-9-2, while Davis & Elkins improves to 8-6-4 and moves on to face Charleston (WV) in the MEC semifinals.
