Filipovits Leads Relay Comeback Charge as Men's Swimming Defeats Fairmont

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team defeated Fairmont State at home by a final score of 137-56 on Friday evening.
 
The Bobcats began the meet with an immediate advantage, as they took each of the 400-meter relay places. Freshman Sean Filipovits joined junior Dylan King and seniors Andrew Wetherhold and Josh Horner in first at 3:58.46, while freshmen Rodney Harris and Bliss Hays teamed with senior Nigel Webster and junior Zeke Cummings in second at 4:28.88.
 
Hays then led a 1-2 finish in the 800 free (9:08.69) with junior Jack Bond (9:23.63), while the next event went one-two-three Frostburg, led by sophomore Bradin Norris (2:05.89) and freshmen Jack McCullough (2:09.11) and Joey Telewoda (2:09.75) in the 200 free. Telewoda (1:04.81) would then take second just behind King (57.60) in the 100 fly.
 
In the final three individual events, the Bobcats picked up a trio of individual victories, with McCullough (1:013.12) taking the 100 back, Norris (4:30.63) winning the 400 free, as Bond (4:30.91) and Horner (5:02.00) made it a 1-2-3 finish, while freshman Rodney Harris (1:16.61) took the 100 breast.
 
Ending the meet in the 400 free relay, a stunning Frostburg comeback led the team of King, Wetherhold, Filipovits, and junior Tory Reynolds to a 3:42.47 victory, just .06 seconds ahead of the Falcons. Filipovits was able to make up a full second deficit in getting to the wall first to secure the win.
 
With the win, Frostburg improves to 2-2 on the year, while Fairmont drops to 0-2. The Bobcats next head back on the road as they travel to Mary Washington on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
