Canapp Takes MEC Men's Swimmer of the Year For Third Consecutive Season, Garase Earns Coach of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced their 2024-25 Men's Swimming awards on Thursday morning with Frostburg State senior Nate Canapp being crowned Men's Swimmer of the Year, while first year Head Coach Kyle Garase was named Coach of the Year.
 
Canapp rounds out his historic career in the pool as a 3x MEC Men's Swimmer of the Year, after receiving MEC Freshman of the Year in his first collegiate season.  In the Bobcats' third straight season as MEC Champions, Canapp went First Team All-MEC in all his individual events at the conference championships showing out in the 500, 1000, and 1650 free, as well as the 400 IM, while also being a part of the First Team All-MEC 800 free relay.  In his final run, Canapp set the new all-time program record in the 400 free (4:12.91) and 800 free relay (8:09.06) to round out his record breaking career.  
 
In his first year at the helm of the program, Garase takes home his first MEC Coach of the Year honor, helping guide Frostburg to their third consecutive conference title.  Garase led the Bobcats to the most points by a MEC men's program at the G-MAC/MEC Championships, scoring a total of 1,119.5 points for third most overall.
