Barnes Makes 20 Saves Against #2 Shippensburg on Road
SHIPPENSBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team dropped a road game to second-ranked Shippensburg by a score of 5-0.
Frostburg traveled to Pennsylvania to play against PSAC opponent in a non-conference matchup. The Raiders came into the game ranked second in the NFHCA poll with an early season record of 4-0.
The Bobcats held tough in the first quarter after giving up the opening goal of the game at the six-minute mark, with the Raiders going up 1-0. SU took five more shots in the quarter, as senior keeper Zoe Barnes coming up with stops and junior Piper Taylor had a defensive save. FSU had its best chance at goal late in the first that hit off each post to be denied.
The second quarter was all Shippensburg, as the hosts took nine shots and scored on two of them. Barnes added five more saves to her total before heading to the half down 3-0.
The Raiders got goal number four early in the third quarter to go up 4-0, after which junior Morgan Sparks got the second defensive save for the Bobcats. With all the momentum, the Raiders took advantage in the fourth quarter and controlled the ball, taking 17 shots overall with 13 of them getting saved. The final score was 5-0 in favor of the hosts.
With the loss Frostburg moves to 0-5 with Shippensburg staying undefeated at 5-0. The Bobcats play again when they host No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Sunday at 1 PM from Bobcat Stadium. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com.
