4x400 Team Sets Second-Fastest Program Mark in Men's Indoor Championship Conclusion
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team placed seventh overall at the Mountain East Indoor Championships following the second and final day of events.
Closing out the second half of the heptathlon, sophomore Mason Reed secured Honorable Mention All-MEC honors in third overall, while freshman Blake Stevens impressively finished fourth in just his second time ever competing in the event. Reed secured second overall in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.85, then won the pole vault with another season high at 3.40m. Stevens hit a PR in the hurdles at 9.16, as his 3,897 total points are also good enough for sixth in program history.
The Bobcats had a fantastic performance in the 400m final, as freshman Cohen Arbogast secured fourth overall in 50.14, setting a new personal best and putting him eighth in program history, while senior Justin Dowell placed sixth at 50.35, also his best-ever and 10th all-time.
During the field events, graduate Rondell Carlton took sixth overall in the triple jump, leaping a career-best 13.41m, while freshman Dorian Grubb did the same at 13.17m to place ninth. Redshirt sophomore Aubrey Russ concluded the day of personal records with a 15.71m in the weight throw, earning seventh overall and fifth in school history.
FSU finished off the meet in fine style, as the 4x400m relay team of Dowell, Arbogast, freshman Mason Worley, and sophomore Jack Hynes blazed a 3:21.29 to take Honorable Mention All-MEC and set the second-fastest time in program history. The Bobcats finished with 54.5 total points, finishing between Glenville State in eighth at 44 and West Virginia State in sixth at 65.5, with Charleston (WV) repeating as champions on 166 points. Frostburg will have one more attempt to set NCAA qualifying marks at the Fastrack Last Chance Meet on Friday, February 28 in Staten Island, NY. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
