    FSU Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance Presents Douglas Holtz in Senior Tuba Recital “2.B.A. Musician” Friday, October 24

    FSU Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present tuba player Douglas Holtz in his Senior Recital, titled “2.B.A. Musician,” on Friday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Pealer Recital Hall at FSU’s Pealer Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public; it will also be livestreamed, click the red 'Join Stream' button on this page to view the live performance.

    Holtz, a senior music education major with a jazz studies minor, will showcase a dynamic program blending classical, contemporary, and jazz influences. Accompanied by pianist Joseph Yungen, the first half features:

    “Beelzebub” by Andrea Catozzi and “Animal Ditties IX” by Anthony Plog“The Camilla Polka” by Francisca Gonzaga (arranged by Joanna Hersey), featuring guest artist Alex Frye on euphonium“One More Duet” by Tom Holtz, featuring his father, Tom Holtz, on tubaThe second half brings an ensemble performance with Maxwell Partlow (saxophone), Alex Frye (trombone), Joseph Orr (trumpet), Daniel Hicks (drums), Abby Lannan (trombone), and Samuel White (trumpet), performing:

    “Haitian Fight Song” by Charles Mingus“Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington, Jr.“Bourbon Street Parade” by Paul Barbarin“Brooklyn” by Nat McIntoshCurrently studying tuba with FSU Professor Abby Lannan, Holtz has previously worked with professors Dr. Donald Albrecht, Tom Harrison, and Joshua Bishop. A Dean’s List scholar and member of Scouting America, he is the son of Tom and Becky Holtz of Jessup, MD. A 2020 graduate of Hammond High School, Holtz will earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from FSU in Spring 2026 and plans to pursue a career as a music teacher.
