- May 97:30 PM"Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff - A collaborative presentation of music, dance, and artCARL ORFF'S MASTERWORK "CARMINA BURANA" TO BE PRESENTED AT FSUOn the weekend of May 9–11, the Frostburg State University Department of Music, in conjunction with B’er Chayim Congregation in Cumberland, the FSU Departments of Visual Arts and Theatre and Dance, as well as the Butterfly Ridge Elementary School Chorus, the Allegany County Public Schools, FSU faculty and alumni, and professional musicians from around the country, will present Carl Orff’s masterwork, "Carmina Burana", his evocative—and almost primal—setting of secular medieval poetry from the region now called Germany.Performed “in the round,” in the Cordts PE Center gymnasium, audience members and performers will be intermixed around an arena for dancing, featuring original choreography by Jamie McGreevy. Original artwork, contextual to the work, its composer, and its larger societal and cultural impact, by FSU students and faculty, will be projected on screens surrounding the venue throughout the performance.Funded by a substantial grant from the Frostburg State University Foundation and contributions from many generous donors, the performances are presented free-of-charge and are open to the general public.Please join us: Friday, May 9, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 10, 7:30 p.m.; or Sunday, May 11, 3:00 p.m. Tickets are required, though FREE, due to space constraints, and may be acquired in advance either online at tickets.frostburg.edu or in-person at the University Box Office, Lane University Center 203 (M-F 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), 301-687-3137.
