Hynes Wins 400, McCoy Takes Pole Vault for Men's Track & Field at Pushkin Invite

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team opened their outdoor season at the Marty Pushkin Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
Sophomore Jack Hynes and senior Tom McCoy each picked up FSU victories on the day, the former winning the 400m in 50.17 while the latter took the pole vault at 4.85m. Senior Marquise Burks wasn't far behind, picking up a trio of top-five individual finishes, securing second in the high jump with a personal best 1.88m, third in the long jump (6.24m), and fourth in the 110m hurdles (16.81), just ahead of freshman Matteo Mosby in fifth (17.23).
 
Burks added onto his day by joining freshmen Desaun Jeffrey, Cohen Arbogast, and Mason Worley with a third-place finish in the 4x100m at 43.52. Also in the sprints, junior Justin Dowell picked up fifth overall in the 400m at 51.55.
 
In the distance events, freshmen Ben Saltysiak (16:02.68) and Ethan McKee (17:52.44) each set PR's for the 5K, while sophomore Gage Osborne competed in his first career steeplechase, placing eighth overall in 4:57.52 for the shortened 1,500m version.
 
Following McCoy in the pole vault, junior Ryan Schlauch (3.80m) and freshman Adeeb Pender (3.65m) each set personal highs for the event. During the throws, redshirt sophomore Aubrey Russ secured a top-five finish in the hammer throw at 42.11m before setting a PR in the shot put at 12.98m. In the discus, freshman Willie Washington took sixth overall at 43.24m, just ahead of sophomore Dalton Kasekamp in seventh with a 42.63m.
 
Frostburg next will have a split team travel to take part in the Raleigh Relays from Thursday, March 27 until Saturday, March 29, while also competing in the Tim Weaver Invite at West Liberty on the latter date. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
