Garase Named Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach
FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State Director of Athletics Troy Dell has announced the hiring of Kyle Garase as Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach.
"Thank you to (Acting Frostburg State President) Al Delia, Troy, and the rest of the search committee for this amazing opportunity. I'm very excited to start my journey at FSU and am looking forward to a great season with the Bobcats.", said Garase.
Garase, entering his first head coaching role, comes to FSU having most previously served as an assistant coach at The College of Wooster the last two years. While at Wooster, he helped lead both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs to 4th place finishes (out of nine teams) in the NCAC Championships during the 2023-24 season. This came a season after the men's team recorded a 3rd place finish during the 2022-23 season, their best performance in the conference championships since 2003.
While with the Fighting Scots, Garase was a part of the NCAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2022-23 season, which included one swimmer qualifying for the Division III National Championships. On the women's side, the team's 2023-24 honors included All-NCAC performances in the 400 medley relay and 800 free relay.
Prior to Wooster, Garase was at Peter's Township School District from 2020-22, working as a Head Age Group Coach and Assistant Swim Coach. He was also an assistant coach at both Hope College and Wittenburg University, having started his coaching career as volunteer assistant in 2017 at Indiana (Pa.).
His other coaching roles include positions at Indiana University and Bates College, while he also served as Aquatics Coordinator at Spencer Family YMCA. Since 2018, he has worked at Total Performance Swim Camps, first serving as a counselor, swim coach, and Assistant Director, before being promoted to Co-Director, a position which he still holds.
Garase earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication in 2018 from Saint Vincent College, where he earned Second-Team All-Presidents Athletic Conference honors as a swimmer, helping the Bearcats set new program records in the 200 and 400 medley relays, as well as the 800 freestyle relay.
