All-Around Team Effort Guides Volleyball to Sweep of Pioneers for Fourth Consecutive Win

The Frostburg State Volleyball team picked up their fourth consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep of Glenville State on the road Friday evening.

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Volleyball team picked up their fourth consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep of Glenville State on the road Friday evening. 
 
Sophomore Paige Mock swatted down the first point of the match for either team, with freshman Emery Kuebler being credited with the assist.  Glenville quickly responded with their first kill of the match to tie the game, until back-to-back kills from freshman Dani Kunkle put Frostburg on top 3-1.  Kunkle helped spark a three-point run for the Bobcats, with a kill from senior AJ Thompson moving the score to 7-3.  The Pioneers were able to secure three groups of two points, keeping themselves in the set, but FSU kept in front after earning some points off GSU errors.  Glenville jumped in front 13-12, but four consecutive points from the Bobcats, with a kill and a service ace from freshman Devin Brunk, put Frostburg back on top 16-13.  FSU surged for another four-point run with points distributed to sophomore Maya Johnon, Kunkle, and junior Amanda Knieper, increasing their lead to 20-14.  GSU fought to tie the score at 22 off five straight points, but Knieper led the Bobcats to take the final three points for the 25-22 victory in set one. 
 
The Pioneers were given the first point of set two, but Kuebler and Mock helped FSU gain the next two points to jump in front.  The Bobcats racked up five straight points with kills from Thompson and Kunkle to push Frostburg's lead to 8-3.  Both teams swapped points for the next few rallies, until junior Chloe Del Signore served up two aces to see the score at 15-5.  With everything going right for FSU on offense, Knieper dished down two kills and Kuebler was credited with a service ace to advance the game to 18-6.  GSU was able to pick up three points to add to their score, but Frostburg answered with two of their own.  The Pioneers were able to knock down some points to get their offense going, but again the Bobcats took the last three points of the match, with redshirt junior Phoebe Lingold dishing to Knieper for the final kill of the 25-12 set two win. 
 
Mock secured the first two points of the third set off a kill and a service ace.  The Pioneers fought to get the next two points back to tie the game, until Thompson swatted down a kill to put the Bobcats in front.  Glenville saw a 5-4 advnatage, until Lingold to Mock put FSU in the lead 6-5.  With GSU finding their rhythm in set three, the Pioneers took a trio of points to again jump in front, but a trio of points from FSU in response put the Bobcats back on top 9-8 with kills from Johnson, Knieper, and Mock.  The set saw ties at nine and 10, before another three point tally from Frostburg put them on top 13-10.  Now rolling with the lead, Kunkle put down a few more kills, as well as a service ace, helping FSU stay in front 18-13.  Johnson then started a three point rally for Frostburg, with Glenville coughing up two attack errors, to put the game at 21-14.  The Pioneers captured three points, but once again the Bobcats secured the final three points of the set, with Mock and Kunkle finishing out the 25-17 victory in set three for the 3-0 sweep. 
 
Kunkle (9), Johnson (8), and Knieper (7) went 1-2-3 in kills, with Kunkle racking up eight digs and Knieper being credited with seven.  Senior Fiona Gonzalez Media also provided seven digs on defense, while Thompson and Mock went for four blocks each.  Kuebler dished out 17 assists, while Lingold wasn't far behind with 13. 
 
With the win, Frostburg moves to 10-14 on the season, while Glenville falls to 3-21.  The Bobcats return home for a Monday night match against Wheeling on Monday, November 4 at 7 PM.  For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
