Women's Cross Country 2024 Season Preview
FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Athletics will be taking a preview for each team competing in the fall season, covering eight total sports. Over the next week, each team will be broken down into their expectations, key players, and overall outlook for their season and program. Next up for the final week is Women's Cross Country.
Overall
Frostburg State Women's Cross Country will run their 55th ever season this fall in 2024. Head Coach Shane Brookshire is set to enter his sixth season with the program, welcoming Baby Jimerson to the staff as the Graduate Assistant.
Last Season
FSU finished fifth out of nine teams last season in the MEC Championships, being led by Alana Dyce-Giraud who finished 16th overall and received Second Team All-MEC honors. Hannah Schauman, Paige Etnoyer, Elizabeth Stanley, and Emily Wishart all went on to place in the top 40 in the conference championships. The Bobcats had three other top 10 finishes in 2023 as a team, with their two best finishes coming in the Bethany Invite, where they placed eighth out of 20 teams, and the Bill Lennox Invitational, where they placed seventh out of 13 teams. Frostburg rounded out their season coming in 18th out of 25 teams in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships.
The Returners
The Bobcats return a tremendous chunk of athletes from the 2023 roster, having had no seniors last year, welcoming back 10 returners. There will be a trio of seniors to represent this year's senior class, with Chelsea Montau, Amy Tarcza, and Stanley all coming back to run. Claire Breighner, Dyce-Giraud, and Adra Schell will serve as juniors, while Jazmine Pinon, Etnoyer, Schauman, and Wishart return as sophomores.
The Newcomers
Brookshire welcomes in a freshman class of four, adding one transfer as well. Kenlee Hayes, Morgan Ruggles, Keira Taylor, and Reilly Teague join the program as freshmen, while Clare Woodring comes in as a sophomore from Hagerstown Community College.
Kick off to Season
FSU starts their season at the Cantello Invite held in Annapolis, MD at 9:45 AM on Saturday, September 7. The Bobcats are then set to compete in the Lock Haven Invite and Paul Short Run, before preparing for the MEC Championships on Saturday, October 26. FSU will then look to participate in the Go Fast River Run, before ending their season at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships.
